Brendon Todd tests positive for coronavirus
May 7, 2021
Brendon Todd of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has had to withdraw from the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Golf Course in Charlotte, North Carolina because he has coronavirus according to Reuters Media. Todd is just the latest male golfer to have coronavirus. He joins a list that includes Dustin Johnson, Tyrrel Hatton, Sergio Garcia, Joaquin Niemann, Xander Schauffele, Webb Simpson, Greg Norman, Gary Woodland, Padraig Harrington, Bill Haas, David Duval, Adam Scott, and Jack Nicklaus.Â
On-site testing is continuing on the PGA Tour and will be extended through to August. Those players who are fully vaccinated no longer have to be tested in order to compete. There have been 976, 768 cases of coronavirus in the state of North Carolina, and 12,721 deaths. There are still 25,307 active cases.
Todd is a three-time PGA Tour winner. His wins came at the 2014 Byron Nelson Championship, the 2019 Bermuda Championship, and the 2019 Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico.
J.J. Spaun of Los Angeles, California is replacing Todd in the field this week. It has not been a good season for Spaun as he has missed the cut in seven of nine PGA events and has seen his world ranking drop to 584th in the world.
Todd meanwhile is currently 57th in the world. He has only missed one cut. That came at the Genesis Invitational at the prestigious Riviera Country Club in southern California this past February. Todd’s best result was a 13th place finish at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January. Even though Todd did not win a PGA event in 2020, he qualified by qualifying for the 2020 Tour Championship in Atlanta.
