Tszyu’s camp sets deadline for Harrison

As reported by Fox Sports’ Ben Damon, Tim Tszyu’s camp has set a 24-hour deadline for Tony Harrison to sign a fight contract.

It comes after ongoing discussions between the two camps and talks have stalled in the final stages.

Speaking to Fox Sports, George Rose from No Limit was under the impression that the contract had reached conclusion.

“We thought we had a deal! We’ve made a very significant offer for a former world champion in Tony Harrison to fight the man who is now mandatory for the world title, Tim Tszyu,” Rose told Fox Sports.

“We expected to see a signed contract this week but now Harrison is making very different noises. If he doesn’t want the fight and he won’t travel, then that is unfortunate, but we understand. He has 24 hours from now to make a decision.”

Now being in September, No Limit is preparing for its festival-style weekend of boxing. Tipped for November, securing Tszyu’s next opponent is now time-critical.

With Tszyu being named as the WBO mandatory to face Brian Castaño, finding an opponent who will test Tszyu is also significant, and Harrison offers a great challenge.

Harrison is the only man to have beaten current WBA, WBC, and IBF world titleholder Jermell Charlo The unanimous decision victory was controversial, but Harrison was later knocked out by Charlo a year later.

Having already beaten a former world champion in Jeff Horn, Tszyu would make another step in his career if he is able to secure the fight with the American and take home the win.

It is clear that having to quarantine once arriving in Australia is a major roadblock for potential fighters but No Limit is working hard to attract Harrison.

Time will tell to determine whether he takes the deal or if No Limit and Tszyu will make other moves to find an opponent.
